Survivors include his mother, Sherry Thompson; brother, Jon Thompson Jayme; and great nephew, Aaron ThompDystonias are heterogeneous hyperkinetic movement disorders characterized by involuntary muscle contractions which result in twisting and repetitive movements and abnormal postures. Several causative genes have been identified, but their genetic bases still remain elusive. Primary Torsion Dystonias PTDs, in which dystonia is the only clinical sign, can be inherited in a monogenic fashion, and many genes and loci have been identified for autosomal dominant DYT1/TOR1A; DYT6/THAP1; DYT4/TUBB4a; DYT7; DYT13; DYT21; DYT23/CIZ1; DYT24/ANO3; DYT25/GNAL and recessive DYT2; DYT17 forms. However most sporadic cases, especially those with late onset, are likely multifactorial, with genetic and environmental factors interplaying to reach a threshold of disease. At present, genetic counseling of dystonia patients remains a difficult task. Recently non motor clinical findings in dystonias, new highlights in the pathophysiology of the disease, and the availability of high throughput genome wide techniques are proving useful tools to better understand the complexity of PTD genetics. We briefly review the genetic basis of the most common forms of hereditary PTDs, and discuss relevant issues related to molecular diagnosis and genetic counseling. Dystonias are a heterogeneous group of hyperkinetic movement disorders characterized by involuntary muscle contractions, resulting in twisting and repetitive movements and abnormal postures Fahn, 1988. Although the diagnosis is mainly clinical Albanese and Lalli, 2012, the current classification is based on etiology, distinguishing primary torsion dystonias PTDs, dystonia plus syndromes, heredodegenerative disorders and secondary dystonias Bressman, 2004. With the exclusion of secondary forms which are related to acquired causes, dystonic syndromes have a genetic basis. Several genes and loci have been identified named with the conventional DYT symbol followed by progressive numbers see Table 1, yet a genetic diagnosis remains elusive in the majority of patients.

ADHD children tend to be more impulsive and aggressive than other children. Teachers observe that the social interactions of ADHD children more often involve fighting and interrupting others. These children are more intense than others and behave inappropriately in social contexts. For example, ADHD children are more likely to yell, run around and talk at unsuitable times. They also tend to want to dominate play, engage in off task behaviors and engage more in teasing and physical jostling of peers. This sets up a process of peer rejection. ADHD children often do not do well in school. Poor school performance by itself does not result in social rejection. However, the way the child responds to his academic difficulties can contribute to inappropriate social behavior. Children who cannot engage themselves with classroom work assignments often disrupt and irritate their peers. ADHD children have difficulty in modulating their behavior and changing their conduct as the situation demands.

The effects of endorphins on the body are also quite similar to the effects produced by the opioid compounds. In fact, the name endorphin is actually the short form for endogenous morphine. Like opioids, endorphins can reduce pain, stress, and promote calmness and serenity. The opioid drugs produce similar effects by attaching themselves to the endorphin receptor sites. Endorphins enable some animals to hibernate by slowing down their rate of metabolism, respiration, and heart rate. It is the hormone produced by the pineal gland that also acts as a neurotransmitter. It basically controls the sleep wake cycle. It is also associated with controlling mood and behavior. The production of melatonin is dependent on light. Light to the retina inhibits the production of melatonin, while darkness has a stimulating effect on its production. It is a gas that acts both as a hormone and neurotransmitter, depending on the specific requirement.
